Pakistani rice exports targeting a larger share of the Saudi Arabia rice market

Pakistan aims to increase rice exports to Saudi Arabia to 325,000 tonnes

Saudi Deal Opens Door For Higher Pakistani Rice Exports

Pakistan aims to nearly double rice shipments to Saudi Arabia as both countries pursue a broader $3 billion agricultural and food export target.

Pakistan Targets Higher Rice Exports to Saudi Arabia

Pakistan is seeking to expand its share of Saudi Arabia’s rice market. Exporters aim to increase shipments to the Kingdom as demand creates opportunities for higher trade volumes.

Pakistan exported approximately 169,000 tonnes of rice worth around $163 million to Saudi Arabia in 2025. Industry representatives now want to raise shipments to about 325,000 tonnes during the current fiscal year.

Pakistan currently accounts for nearly 10% of Saudi Arabia’s rice imports. Exporters hope to increase this share to 20%, with basmati rice forming the main part of Pakistan’s supply.

Saudi Arabia imports approximately 1.2 million tonnes of basmati rice annually. Achieving the proposed target would therefore represent a significant increase in Pakistan’s recent shipments.

$3 Billion Agricultural Export Ambition

The rice export initiative forms part of wider agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Both countries have set a target of increasing Pakistan’s agricultural and food exports to the Kingdom to $3 billion over the next two years.

Rice is among the priority products under this framework. Other areas include red meat, fruits, green fodder and water-efficient farming technologies.

The two sides have also discussed measures to reduce trade and regulatory barriers. A joint technical mechanism is expected to help address practical challenges and facilitate smoother trade.

India Remains Pakistan’s Main Competitor

India remains the largest rice supplier to Saudi Arabia. Pakistani exporters will need to strengthen their competitiveness to secure a larger share of the market.

Competitive pricing, consistent quality and reliable supply volumes will be essential. Exporters must also meet buyers’ requirements for packaging, certification and delivery schedules.

Improved logistics and more efficient trade procedures could further support Pakistani suppliers. These factors will determine whether the country can convert its export ambitions into sustained market gains.

Higher Rice Shipments Could Support Foreign Exchange

An increase in rice exports to Saudi Arabia could generate additional foreign exchange for Pakistan. Higher shipments would also support the country’s trade balance.

The expansion could benefit growers, rice millers and exporters across the agricultural supply chain. Greater export volumes may also create additional business opportunities for companies involved in processing, packaging and logistics.

If Pakistan achieves its target of 325,000 tonnes, rice could make a stronger contribution to the broader $3 billion agricultural and food export ambition.
