Pakistan Mobile Subscribers: Cellular Base Reaches 211.47 Million

Operators added 10.91 million connections in the first nine months of 2026, while PTML narrowed its subscriber gap with market leader Jazz to just 150,000.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s mobile subscriber base reached 211.47 million in September 2026, reflecting continued growth in the country’s telecommunications sector. Cellular operators added 300,000 connections during the month, representing a monthly increase of 0.14%.

The market recorded stronger growth over the first nine months of the year. Operators collectively added 10.91 million subscribers since December 2025, increasing the total cellular base by 5.4% from 200.56 million.

The figures highlight sustained demand for mobile connectivity, although monthly additions remain relatively modest.

Jazz and PTML Lead the Market

Jazz retained its position as Pakistan’s largest cellular operator in September, with 76.44 million subscribers and a market share of 36.15%.

PTML followed closely with 76.29 million connections, accounting for 36.08% of the national subscriber base. The difference between the two operators narrowed to just 150,000 subscribers, intensifying competition for market leadership.

Zong held 56.62 million connections, representing 26.78% of the market, while SCO accounted for 2.12 million subscribers, equivalent to approximately 1% of total connections.

Together, Jazz and PTML controlled more than 72% of Pakistan’s cellular market.

PTML Leads Subscriber Additions in 2026

PTML recorded the highest number of net subscriber additions during the first nine months of 2026, adding 4.83 million connections.

Zong followed with 3.48 million additional subscribers, while Jazz added 2.58 million during the same period.

PTML’s stronger growth helped it reduce the subscriber gap with Jazz from 210,000 connections in August to 150,000 in September.

The narrowing difference highlights PTML’s growing competitive position and the increasingly close contest between Pakistan’s two largest cellular operators.

Competition Intensifies Across the Telecom Sector

Pakistan’s cellular market continues to expand, supported by demand for mobile connectivity, wider network coverage and competitive data packages.

Although September’s monthly growth remained limited, the addition of nearly 11 million connections since the beginning of the year indicates that operators continue to attract new subscribers.

The increasingly close competition between Jazz and PTML could encourage further investment in network infrastructure, service quality and customer acquisition strategies.

Meanwhile, Zong’s substantial subscriber base maintains its position as a major competitor in the market, while SCO continues to serve a smaller share of cellular connections.

The latest figures point to a growing telecommunications market in which subscriber acquisition and customer retention remain important priorities for operators.
