The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has categorically rejected reports circulating on social media claiming that the Rs10 banknote is being discontinued and that a final date has been set for exchanging the denomination.
The central bank said the reports are baseless and have no substance, advising the public to rely only on official communications for information about currency notes.
No Decision Taken on Any Banknote Denomination
The SBP said it has submitted a proposal for the introduction of a new banknote series, which is currently under consideration by the Federal Cabinet.
The proposal remains under deliberation, and no decision has been taken regarding the replacement or discontinuation of any existing banknote denomination, including the Rs10 note.
This means that reports claiming the Rs10 banknote has already been withdrawn or that a deadline has been announced for its exchange do not reflect any decision communicated by the central bank.
Public Will Be Given Adequate Time If Any Note Is Discontinued
The SBP clarified that if a decision is taken in the future to replace or discontinue any banknote denomination, the public will be formally informed through official channels.
The central bank also said adequate time would be provided for the public to exchange any banknotes that may be discontinued.
The clarification is intended to counter confusion created by unofficial social media reports and prevent the public from relying on unverified claims regarding the status of currency notes.
SBP Advises Public to Follow Official Channels
The central bank has advised the public to obtain information about banknotes and currency-related decisions only through official SBP communications.
Until any formal announcement is made, there is no SBP decision to discontinue the Rs10 banknote or establish a last date for its exchange.
