Hum Network Profits Plunge Almost 80% in FY26

Hum Network Limited (PSX: HUMNL), Pakistan’s publicly listed television network, has reported a significant decline in annual profitability as falling advertising revenue and rising costs weigh on its financial performance amid a shift in audience consumption towards digital platforms.

The company posted a profit of Rs267.12 million for the financial year ended June 30, 2026, representing a 78.38% decline from Rs1.24 billion in the previous year. Earnings per share (EPS) fell to Rs0.24 from Rs1.09, reflecting the pressure on the broadcaster’s earnings.

Despite the sharp reduction in profit, the company declared a final cash dividend of Re0.50 per share, in addition to an interim dividend of the same amount.

Hum Network Revenue Falls 24% in FY26

Hum Network’s net revenue declined 24.01% year-on-year to Rs8.72 billion from Rs11.48 billion, highlighting the challenges facing its traditional television business.

Gross profit fell 33.35% to Rs2.21 billion as the company faced pressure on its margins. Operating profit recorded an even sharper decline of 94.04%, falling to Rs82.33 million.

The deterioration in operating profitability indicates that the company’s revenue contraction and cost pressures significantly reduced earnings from its core operations.

Although the network continued generating revenue from its broadcasting activities, weaker sales and tighter margins left substantially less operating profit available to support its bottom line.

Advertisers Shift Spending Away From Traditional Television

The changing dynamics of Pakistan’s advertising market are placing pressure on conventional television broadcasters.

Advertisers have increasingly shifted spending towards digital platforms as audiences consume dramas, entertainment and other content through YouTube and online channels. This transition has weakened demand for traditional television advertising slots.

For Hum Network, the challenge is to retain the value of its established television content while expanding its digital distribution and monetisation capabilities.

Although digital revenue is growing across the broader media landscape, it has not yet fully compensated for the decline in conventional television advertising, according to the information provided.

The shift is also changing how broadcasters compete for advertising budgets, with audience engagement and digital reach becoming increasingly important to commercial performance.

Tax Credit Supports Hum Network’s Bottom Line

An income tax credit of Rs390.14 million helped Hum Network remain profitable despite the substantial decline in operating earnings.

The tax credit provided significant support to the company’s reported net profit. Without this benefit, its bottom-line performance would have been considerably weaker.

Finance costs increased 32% during the year, adding to the pressure on earnings. The company also recorded a small share of loss from a joint venture.

Together, these factors further constrained profitability at a time when the broadcaster was already facing declining revenue and operating margins.

Pakistan’s Television Industry Faces Structural Change

Hum Network’s financial results reflect the wider transition taking place across Pakistan’s entertainment and broadcasting industry.

Audiences increasingly access television dramas and entertainment through digital platforms, while advertisers are adjusting their budgets to follow changing viewing habits. This shift is challenging the traditional revenue model built around linear television broadcasts.

Broadcasters must now balance conventional television operations with digital distribution, online advertising and other potential revenue streams.

The pace at which companies adapt their business models, monetise digital audiences and manage operating expenses will influence their ability to sustain profitability in the evolving media market.

Dividend Continues Despite Earnings Decline

Hum Network’s decision to declare a final dividend of Re0.50 per share, alongside an interim dividend of the same amount, provides shareholders with a cash distribution despite the sharp fall in annual profit.

However, the dividend alone does not indicate that the company’s earnings pressure has eased. The sustainability of future shareholder distributions will depend on revenue performance, operating cash generation and the company’s ability to manage costs.

Investors will likely monitor upcoming financial results for signs of stabilisation in advertising revenue, improved operating margins and stronger monetisation of digital content.

Outlook Depends on Revenue Recovery and Digital Growth

Hum Network faces the challenge of rebuilding profitability in a market where traditional television advertising is under pressure and digital consumption continues to expand.

A recovery will depend on stabilising revenue, controlling expenses and developing digital channels capable of generating meaningful commercial returns.

The company’s FY26 results underline the financial impact of the changing media landscape, while its future performance will depend on how effectively it adapts to evolving audience preferences and advertiser demand.
