Over 724,000 Fake Calls in April on Helpline 15: Punjab Safe Cities Authority Acts Tough

LAHORE, May 06 (APP): The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has announced a major crackdown against individuals making fake, hoax, and irrelevant calls to the Emergency Helpline 15. This decision follows the receipt of over 724,000 such calls in April 2026 alone. Alarming Rise in Misuse According to a PSCA spokesperson, these unnecessary calls are blocking the helpline and delaying responses to genuine emergencies. Authorities have already identified the top 150 repeat hoax callers and initiated legal proceedings against them. The spokesperson described the situation as alarming, noting that fake calls keep emergency lines engaged, potentially putting lives at risk when real help is needed urgently. PSCA is also issuing callback warnings to around 200 irrelevant callers every month to promote responsible usage of the service. Legal Action and Public Appeal The spokesperson clarified that Emergency Helpline 15 is a free public service provided by the Punjab government. Misusing it is a punishable offence under the law, and strict action will be taken against violators. PSCA appealed to citizens to use the helpline only for real emergencies so that prompt assistance can be provided to those truly in need. The authority remains fully operational round the clock, using modern technology to ensure quick response times. This initiative aims to restore the efficiency of the emergency response system across Punjab. Officials hope that awareness and strict enforcement will significantly reduce hoax calls and strengthen the overall safety network in the province.

Chery Master Pakistan Signals New Product Expansion in Pakistan Following Strong Presence at Auto China 2026

Karachi, May 7:  Chery Master Pakistan is evaluating to launch two to three future models for the local market, including the Tiggo 4 HEV, QQ BEV, and Tiggo V, products that reflect Chery’s broader focus on hybrid, electric and multi-purpose mobility solutions. Read More: https://theboardroompk.com/pakistan-imf-climate-funding-set-to-unlock-200-million-boost-for-green-economy/ Chery Master Pakistan, introduced locally by Master Auto Engineering, part of the Master Group with over 60 years of industrial and automotive legacy, has signalled the potential introduction of multiple new models in the local market following its strong participation at Auto China 2026, where the company engaged with global leadership and reviewed Chery’s next-generation product and technology roadmap. The direction is supported by Chery’s global plan to introduce 13 new models over the next two years across gasoline, hybrid and electric powertrains, spanning SUV, sedan, urban mobility and pickup segments. For Pakistan, these categories hold growing relevance as consumers increasingly seek fuel-efficient, practical and technology-driven vehicles amid rising fuel costs and changing mobility needs. Speaking on the company’s future direction, Samir Malik, CEO of Chery Master Pakistan, said “Pakistan remains an important growth market for Chery’s advanced mobility technologies, adding that the company is focused on evaluating products that match local driving conditions, consumer expectations and long-term mobility trends.” At Auto China 2026, Chery showcased the QQ BEV, a compact electric vehicle offering a range of up to 410 kilometres. The model is positioned as an affordable urban mobility solution, making it particularly relevant for congested cities such as Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, where lower running costs, ease of movement and compact design are becoming more important for daily commuters. The Tiggo V concept, meanwhile, represents a versatile mobility platform combining SUV space, MPV practicality, and pickup-style utility. Its multi-purpose character aligns closely with Pakistan’s strong preference for family-oriented vehicles that can also support lifestyle, business and utility requirements. The Tiggo 4 HEV further expands Chery’s hybrid portfolio into a more accessible segment, potentially opening new opportunities in Pakistan’s compact SUV market. With hybrid technology gaining traction due to fuel economy benefits and limited charging infrastructure for full EVs, such products could play an important role in accelerating local NEV adoption. Chery currently operates in more than 130 countries with over 19 million global users, while one out of every four vehicles exported from China is a Chery, underscoring the company’s growing export leadership. In Pakistan, Chery Master Pakistan has established the largest locally assembled (CKD) plug-in hybrid SUV portfolios in the market. This includes the Tiggo 9 PHEV positioned as the first premium plug-in hybrid E-SUV, the new Tiggo 8 PHEV as the country’s only 7-seater plug-in hybrid D-SUV, and the newly introduced Tiggo 7 PHEV as a premium 5-seater C-segment SUV. Together, this lineup spans key SUV segments and reflects a deliberate strategy to make advanced hybrid technology accessible across different customer needs.

Pakistan IMF Climate Funding Set to Unlock $200 Million Boost for Green Economy

Pakistan IMF Climate Funding is once again in the global spotlight as the country prepares to secure nearly $200 million from the International Monetary Fund under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). The IMF executive board is expected to review the funding proposal on Friday, a move that could strengthen Pakistan’s climate adaptation strategy and provide much-needed support for green economic reforms. The announcement came during the Breathe Pakistan International Climate Change Conference 2026, organized by Dawn Media, where Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb painted a more confident picture of Pakistan’s economic position compared to previous years. The development is being viewed as a significant signal of international confidence in Pakistan’s economic recovery and climate resilience roadmap. Pakistan IMF Climate Funding Reflects Stronger Economic Stability Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted how Pakistan’s financial position has improved dramatically since the devastating floods of 2022. At that time, the country depended heavily on international donor conferences and foreign pledges, many of which failed to fully materialize because of strict project financing conditions. This time, however, the government claims it was able to absorb the economic shock caused by the 2025 floods without urgently seeking international rescue pledges. According to Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s improved economic buffers and financial discipline allowed the government to respond more independently, marking a major shift in economic management. This narrative is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s case before global lenders and climate financing institutions that are increasingly demanding financial stability before approving green investment programs. Green Financing Becoming a New Economic Strategy The Pakistan IMF Climate Funding initiative is only one part of a broader green financing push being planned by the government. Aurangzeb revealed that Pakistan currently receives between $600 million and $700 million annually from institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for climate-related and development financing. At the same time, the government is aggressively exploring alternative funding channels to support environmentally sustainable projects. One of the most ambitious plans includes the launch of Panda Bonds worth approximately $250 million in Chinese RMB. The government is also preparing locally issued green Sukuks aimed at attracting both domestic and international investors interested in sustainable finance. Officials believe these financing tools could open a new era for Pakistan’s capital markets while helping the country fund renewable energy and climate adaptation projects. Renewable Energy Push Could Transform Pakistan’s Economy A major focus of the conference was Pakistan’s growing urgency to move away from fossil fuel dependency. The finance minister stressed that Pakistan must accelerate investment in renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and hydropower. Rising fuel import bills, pressure on foreign exchange reserves, and global climate risks are forcing policymakers to rethink the country’s long-term energy strategy. Aurangzeb assured investors and development partners that the government would continue supporting renewable energy projects through subsidies, guarantees, and policy backing. Energy experts believe this transition could reduce Pakistan’s economic vulnerability while creating new investment opportunities in the green economy sector. Climate Change No Longer Just an Environmental Issue During his speech, Aurangzeb warned that climate change should no longer be treated as an isolated environmental debate. He emphasized that every government ministry must integrate climate priorities into policymaking, economic planning, infrastructure development, agriculture, and industrial growth strategies. Without coordinated action, he warned, climate discussions risk remaining limited to conferences and academic debates rather than translating into real economic transformation. The statement reflects a growing realization within Pakistan’s leadership that climate change is now directly linked to economic survival, national security, and future investment flows. IMF Funding Could Improve Investor Confidence Analysts believe approval of the Pakistan IMF Climate Funding package could send a strong message to global investors and financial markets. The funding may not only strengthen Pakistan’s climate resilience projects but also improve investor confidence at a time when the country is trying to stabilize inflation, attract foreign investment, and maintain economic growth momentum. With climate financing becoming a central pillar of global economic policy, Pakistan appears determined to position itself as a serious participant in the emerging green economy.
