ASTANA, June 19 — A new heatwave sweeping across much of France has disrupted transport and education services, forcing the cancellation of dozens of train routes and prompting several schools to suspend or adjust classes, as temperatures are expected to climb to 40°C in the coming days.
Authorities have placed about a quarter of the country, including Paris, under an orange weather alert, urging residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit exposure during peak heat hours.
France’s national meteorological agency, Météo-France, said the heatwave is likely to continue into next week, with temperatures forecast to peak on Sunday or Monday. Some areas, including the capital, could see highs of up to 40°C.
In related climate observations, global surface air and sea temperatures in May reached the second-highest level on record, according to the latest analysis from the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
