Sales of Toyota’s Fortuner SUV and Hilux pickup fell 39% month-on-month in September 2026, declining from 950 units in August to 579 units. The sharp drop signalled a loss of momentum in the segment, despite continued annual growth.
Combined sales remained 16% higher than the 497 units recorded in September 2025, presenting a mixed picture for the two models.
The figures come as Pakistan’s broader automobile market faces uneven demand, with several vehicle categories recording declines during the month.
Sharp Monthly Decline In Sales
The Fortuner and Hilux category recorded combined sales of 579 units in September, down 371 units from the previous month. August sales had reached 950 units, making the latest month-on-month decline a significant setback.
However, the annual comparison showed a more positive trend. Sales increased from 497 units in September last year, indicating that combined volumes remained above the previous year’s level despite the recent slowdown.
The available figures cover both models together and do not establish how much the Fortuner or Hilux individually contributed to the monthly decline.
Toyota’s Overall Sales Remain Stronger
Indus Motor Company, which sells Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, recorded total sales of 4,142 units in September, up 31.4% year-on-year from 3,152 units.
The Corolla, Yaris and Corolla Cross lineup accounted for 3,563 units, representing a 34% increase compared with September 2025. The Fortuner and Hilux contributed a combined 579 units to the company’s monthly sales.
The contrasting performances indicate that Indus Motor maintained strong annual sales growth overall, even as its SUV and pickup segment experienced a substantial decline from August.
Wider Auto Market Faces Pressure
Pakistan’s automobile market also recorded weaker performance in September. Industry sales of passenger cars, SUVs and light commercial vehicles fell 12.1% year-on-year to 15,104 units.
Against this backdrop, the Fortuner and Hilux segment continued to show annual growth but faced a significant monthly setback. The difference between the two comparisons highlights the importance of distinguishing short-term sales movements from broader year-on-year trends.
The coming months will indicate whether September’s decline reflects a temporary fluctuation or a more sustained slowdown in demand for Toyota’s Fortuner and Hilux models.
