OGDC Commences Gas and Condensate Production from Bitrism East-1 Well in Khairpur, Sindh

Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has commenced gas and condensate production from its Bitrism East-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district, Sindh, marking another step towards developing Pakistan’s indigenous hydrocarbon resources.

As of October 22, 2026, the well is producing 7.0 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 200 barrels of condensate per day from the Basal Sands. Production is expected to increase gradually as the well’s flow stabilises.

The development is expected to contribute to domestic energy supplies as Pakistan continues efforts to bring new oil and gas discoveries into commercial production.

Bitrism East-1 Discovery Moves into Production

OGDC announced the discovery at Bitrism East-1 on October 1, 2025, in the Massive and Basal Sands of the Lower Goru Formation.

The commencement of production marks progress in converting the exploratory discovery into an operational source of gas and condensate. The well’s current output includes both natural gas and condensate, a liquid hydrocarbon produced alongside gas.

OGDC expects production levels to rise gradually as the well stabilises, potentially increasing the contribution of the discovery to Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon supply.

OGDC Builds 28-Kilometre Flowline to Connect Well

To accelerate production, OGDC used its in-house resources to construct an approximately 28-kilometre flowline with an eight-inch diameter. The pipeline connects Bitrism East-1 to the Sinjhoro Plant, where the gas is processed.

Following processing, the gas is being supplied to the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), linking the new production source with Pakistan’s domestic gas distribution infrastructure.

The flowline infrastructure has enabled OGDC to move the discovery into production without relying solely on the completion of a new external pipeline project.

OGDC Holds 77.5% Working Interest in Bitrism Licence

OGDC operates the Bitrism Exploration Licence and holds a 77.5% working interest in the project. Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 22.5%.

The project reflects OGDC’s role in exploration and development activities aimed at identifying and bringing domestic hydrocarbon resources into production.

New Production Supports Pakistan’s Energy Supply

The start of production from Bitrism East-1 adds another source of indigenous gas to Pakistan’s energy system. Domestic gas production can help supply consumers and businesses while supporting efforts to manage the country’s energy requirements.

The well’s current output of 7.0 MMSCFD, alongside 200 barrels of condensate per day, represents the initial production level, with further increases expected as the flow stabilises.

OGDC said the development reflects its continued focus on bringing discoveries into production, strengthening domestic hydrocarbon supplies and contributing to Pakistan’s energy security.
